<div itemprop="description">Uchikata, Shinsuke (John) <br />After a brief illness, in his 100th year, John passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on September, 25, 2015. <br />Born on September, 11, 1916, in Vancouver, B.C., John was an intrepid entrepreneur. Whether he was painting houses in his 70&rsquo;s or e-trading in his 90&rsquo;s, John was never one to shy away from learning new things or putting in a good days work. He was an avid ballroom dancer and a senior member of the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and Shiga Kenjinkai. <br />John married Hanako (nee Hori) in 1944 and spent 60 enduring years before her passing in 2004. He was predeceased by his son, John David (Sharon nee Wallace). <br />To his family he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Martha Jane (Paul Mays) and Beverly Ann (Phil Tweedie) and son, Paul Douglas (Susan nee Inamoto). Sadly missed by his 7 grandchildren, Daniel (Emi Nishizawa), Jennifer, Kim (Sean King), Pauline (Bernie Derible), Brian (Jenn McCutcheon), Kevin (Jin Cha) and Steven (Anne Marie Hutchinson) and 6 great grandchildren, Olivia, Landon, Georgia, Ava, Rhys and Hunter. <br />He will be remembered by his friends for his kindness, generosity, humour and gregarious nature. <br />Sincere thanks to all the caregivers, personal support workers, hospice volunteer&rsquo;s, doctors, St. Joseph&rsquo;s Health Centre staff, Community Care Access Centre and palliative care team. <br /> Visitations will be held Thursday, October 8, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Glendale Funeral Home, 1810 Albion Road in Etobicoke. <br />A Funeral Service will be held at the Glendale Chapel on Friday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. <br />In accordance with his wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph&rsquo;s Health Centre Foundation (Toronto), Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre or Momiji Health Care Society. <br /></div>
