Jean Mansour Maalouf, 78, of Zahlé, Lebanon passed away on April 3, 2016 in Birmingham, Alabama, at hospital. He was surrounded by family when he finally succumbed to his years-long battle with cancer. He was born the 4th of 8 children in Zahlé to Mansour and Adèle Maalouf.

Jean, who graduated with a business degree from the American University of Beirut with honors, set out to work in the family business where he helped in expanding the scope of business ventures both nationally and abroad. He was passionate and gave his all to his family both at work and at home. He travelled to many countries on a personal and business level, but not until late in life did he take some personal time with his wife and enjoyed a few cruises.

He was a savvy entrepreneur with a sharp wit who loved and respected everyone he met. His conversations were always impassioned, intelligent, humorous, and informed. He had a warmth and love that knew no bounds, and he shared that with strangers, friends, and above all, his family.

Jean was a devoted husband to Denise, and a proud father to Aline Maalouf (husband Marvin), Samer Maalouf, (wife Nadine), and Lara Maalouf (husband Nick). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin, Chloé, Justin, John, Mia, and Sharbel, and his siblings, Elias, Jeanette, Sleiman, Tony, and Joseph.

Memorial donations may be made in Jean’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or American Cancer Society.

In Remembrance

We watched you suffer,
we watched you sigh,
but all we could do was just stand by.

When the time came, we suffered too,
for you never deserved what you
went through.

God took your hand and we had to part.
He eased your pain,
but broke our hearts.

If you could have spoken before you died,
these are the words you would have replied:

"This life for me is truly past.
I love you all to the very last.
Weep not for me but courage take,
and love one another - for my sake."
